I'm trying to convert NerdDinner into using SQL Server 2008 databases (instead of using sql server express editon, my webhost provider, Surftown.dk does not support sql server express).

I'm working with the NerdDinner (Change Set 70027, the sln under the trunk folder which contains a MVC 3 Razor version).

I have created the asp.net member database inside sql server 2008, into a new database which I have named NDUsers. I have also managed to create another database inside SQL Server 2008 called NDMain and copied all tables data from Dinners.mdf to this database.

Now when I run the applikation it runs fine until when I click "view all upcomming dinners", then I get an error stating:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

public IQueryable<Dinner> All
{
    get { return db.Dinners.Include(r => r.RSVPs); }
}

Source File:

C:\Users\...\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\
NerdDinner 70027\Trunk\NerdDinner\Models\DinnerRepository.cs

I have remembered to update the connection strings, to reflect changes:

Web.config
<connectionStrings configSource="connectionStrings.config">
</connectionStrings>

and
connectionString.config

<add name="ApplicationServices"
connectionString="Data Source=localhost;
Initial Catalog=NDUsers;
Integrated Security=True"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>

<add name="NerdDinnerEntities"
connectionString="metadata=res://*/Models.NerdDinner.csdl|
res://*/Models.NerdDinner.ssdl|res://*/Models.NerdDinner.msl;
provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string="
Data Source=localhost;
Initial Catalog=NDMain;
Integrated Security=True;
User Instance=False;
MultipleActiveResultSets=True""
providerName="System.Data.EntityClient"/>

I'm guessing that I have to update the code inside the DinnerRepository.cs
file and probably also else where in the solution. But I dont know what to update or how.

I have also looked at : Extending NerdDinner: Exploring Different Database Options,
but this article does not seem to apply to my situation.

Thanks for reading

I was having same problem when I implemented NerdDinner on my localhost, using SQL Server 2008.

The solution to get NerdDinner up and running smootly is actually quite simple

I have download nerddinner-70027 and using trunk folder

Now just do these 3 steps and you will have NerdDinner up and running.

1. download and install Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 Express RC0
from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=28151 you may also download SQL Management Studio from same place.

2. now just open NerdDinner (in Visual Studio (I'm using 2010)) and open web.config and connectionStrings.config
The connectionString inside these should point to your 2012 server instance name e.g.

web.config

    <add name="applicationservices" connectionString="data source=your-pc-name\your-sql-server-express-2012-name;integrated security=sspi;attachdbfilename=|datadirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;user instance=true" providerName="system.data.sqlclient" />
    <add name="nerddinners" connectionString="data source=your-pc-name\your-sql-server-express-2012-name;integrated security=sspi;attachdbfilename=|datadirectory|nerddinner.mdf;user instance=true;multipleactiveresultsets=true" providerName="system.data.sqlclient" />

            providerName="System.Data.EntityClient"
     />

3. Open Server Explorer (inside VS) and right click mdf databases one by one, go to Modify Connection > klik Advanced button and change the DataSource to your 2012 sql server instance name

Thats it, you dont even have to commet-out your mini MiniProfiler code. Everything should run just smootly.

Sincerely

Hi I have "installed" NerdDinner and it's working nicely.

I am now trying to debug it, in order to try out a few things. However It seems like MVC Mini profiler is interfering with the debugging.

I basically just set a break point at HomeController.cs at public ActionResult Index(){ ... -and it goes fine until it has to return the View ( Return View(); ). Here I get an error page saying "No Source Available", There is no source available for
the current location.

The error page return following information:

Call stack location:

MVCMiniProfiler.CLL!MVCMiniProfiler.MVCHelpers.ProfilingActionFilter.OnActionExecuted(System.Web.Mvc.ActionExecutedContext filterContext) Line 58

Source file information

Locating source for 'C:\Users\myusername\Desktop\mvc-mini-profiler\MvcMiniProfiler\MVCHelpers\ProfilingActionFilter.cs'. Checksum: MD5 {4e ...}The file 'C:\Users\myusername\Desktop\mvc-mini-profiler\MvcMiniProfiler\MVCHelpers\ProfilingActionFilter.cs' does
not exist.Looking in script documents for 'C:\Users\myusername\Desktop\mvc-mini-profiler\MvcMiniProfiler\MVCHelpers\ProfilingActionFilter.cs'...Looking in the projects for 'C:\Users\myusername\Desktop\mvc-mini-profiler\MvcMiniProfiler\MVCHelpers\ProfilingActionFilter.cs'.The
file was not found in a project.Looking in directory 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\crt\src\'...Looking in directory 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\atlmfc\src\mfc\'...Looking in directory 'C:\Program Files

to find the file: C:\Users\myusername\Desktop\mvc-mini-profiler\MvcMiniProfiler\MVCHelpers\ProfilingActionFilter.cs.The debugger could not locate the source file 'C:\Users\myusername\Desktop\mvc-mini-profiler\MvcMiniProfiler\MVCHelpers\ProfilingActionFilter.cs'.

I'm not sure what file(s) it is looking after. I'm all new to MVC Mini profiler (but trying to catch on to it).

Hope some could provide words of wisdom.

Thanks for reading.

Sincerely

Hi

I have gotten NerdDinner up and running. I'm trying to change the default location (us) of the Bing map, on the index.cshmtl.

It's not that straightforward as I had imagined. I can see there is a getCurrentLocation() javascript method on index.cshtml, however it seem like this method has not been implemented.

I would prefer if someone could point me in the right direction.

In short: I would like to locate the location of the current user, if he is from Sweden then I would like to show a Swedish map, and if from Germany then a map of Germany and so forth.

Thanks for reading.

Sincerely

Samar

And many thanks for the NerdDinner application/tutorial, you guys have done a wonderful job. I hope you guys will continue to contribute with these kind of projects.

Sincerely
